Many poker players are known for their special characteristics. Some shout out loud far too much, others have that specific look which makes you remember him or her. Chris Ferguson is no exception. You're looking at a poker player who has been called Jesus for ages, which is obviously based on his looks. While you’re at the poker table, don’t try to outsmart this guy. You should know that he is more than just a skilled gambler. He has photographic memory and his favorite movie title is "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". That, if anything, tells a lot about him. Ferguson grew up in the sunny state of Los Angeles, California and was born on April 11, 1963. People who know him know that his success in poker has a reason to it. He grew up in a wealthy and rich environment with parents who have doctorate degrees in physics and mathematics. More specifically, his father advanced in statistics and game theory at the UCLA, a fact that would aid Chris later on. Like many young children, Chris followed his parents' steps and earned a PhD in computer science and analytics. In addition, he picked up on poker at an early age, even before he turned ten years old. No matter how interesting card games may have seemed to him, Chris dreamed of becoming what his parents had accomplished already. Meanwhile, his interest in poker grew as he played a lot of card games with friends on weekends during his high school years. As Chris’s skills quickly evolved, he started exploring whether his new addiction could lead to gambling at a higher level. Instead of maximizing his chances of winning, he went straight ahead and targeted the professional level of players to find out how they played and what he could do to improve further. He ended up playing plenty of buy-in tournaments at casinos with fees ranging from $150 to $300. Shortly after graduation in 1999, Chris decided to go for the big bucks and joined World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour tournaments. At the WSOP, Chris scored no less than five bracelets, including the victory at the main event of Texas Hold’em No-Limit in 2000. Chris faced T.J. Cloutier at the final table and got a "trademark" on his winning cards, A-9. T.J. Cloutier had the edge over Chris with a better hand, A-Q, but Jesus must have heard Chris’s prayers as the river saved him. In other words, next time you pick up A-9, you are holding the hand of Chris Ferguson. Chris is far from done playing poker. He is one of the most prominent players at tournaments and even owns a part of Full Tilt Poker, an online poker room. If you want to catch him playing, this is where you should go. You can find him using the alias Ferguson, mostly playing tournament games and only a very few ring games. In 2004, Chris Ferguson participated in 70 tournaments. His interest for the game has not declined in 2005; Chris participated in approximately 80 tournaments that year. |
